EIGHT CORE AREAS TO BOOST AGRICULTURE SECTOR IN SRI AMAN

SRI AMAN: Agricultural activities to help the people in Sri Aman parliamentary constituency will be intensified through eight core areas. Sri Aman MP Masir Kujat said the eight areas are commercial farming, planting of “Gaharu” trees, rearing of fresh water fish, goats rearing, livestocks rearing, commercial padi planting, commercial pepper planting and the implementation of contract farming.
He told reporters that all the farming activities were to increase food products while at the same time help to improve the livelihood of the locals. Earlier he chaired Sri Aman Parliamentary Agriculture Development Council (MPPP), together with the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) state deputy director Isa Hamzah and other government agencies.
Asked what he meant by commercial farming, Masir explained that it included the planting lemon grass on a commercial scale. He also said that under the contract farming, farmers would have a ready market to sell the product. “With the measures already put in place, I hope that the local will grab the opportunity to increase their income and at the same time increase food production for the state,” Masir pointed out
